Connect Claude
Connect Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps) to your Evenbead books with Claude's custom connectors. You sign in to Evenbead and choose what Claude may do; you never paste an API key into Claude.
What you need
- A Claude plan that allows custom connectors. On 2026-10-11 that was Free (one custom connector), Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds the connector for the organization first.
- An Evenbead login with the admin role in the company (or, for an accounting firm, a firm admin login).
Add the connector
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it
Evenbeadand enter the URLhttps://api.evenbead.com/mcp. Leave the advanced OAuth settings empty: Claude identifies itself to Evenbead on its own. - Choose Add, then Connect. Claude opens Evenbead's sign-in in your browser.
- Sign in to Evenbead if you are not already signed in.
- On the consent screen, check that it says Connect Claude to Evenbead and that you go back to claude.ai. Pick the level: - Read only: Claude can read accounts, transactions, reports and documents. - Suggest (the default): Claude drafts entries, invoices, bills and categorizations as proposals. Nothing posts until a person approves it in Proposals. - Post within limits: Claude posts on its own up to a per-entry cap and a daily cap, only to the accounts you allow. Anything larger, anything else, and anything touching owner's equity waits for a person.
- Choose Allow. You are back in Claude, and the Evenbead tools are available in your chats. Turn the connector on for a chat from the tools menu if it is off.
Claude Desktop and the mobile apps use the connectors you added on claude.ai; there is nothing to configure on the device.
What to ask
- "Using Evenbead, what were last month's expenses by account?"
- "Categorize the unmatched lines in my checking account." (With Suggest, each becomes a proposal for you to approve.)
- "Draft an invoice to Riverbend Bakery for 12 hours of design at $95."
Manage or disconnect
In Evenbead, open Settings, then Connected AI apps. Each connection shows its level, when it was connected and last used, and what it did recently, with links to the audit log. Change the level or disconnect there. Disconnecting stops Claude's access at once; removing the connector in Claude does not by itself revoke it in Evenbead, so disconnect in both places.
A connection lasts 90 days. After that, Claude asks you to connect again.
How it works
Claude registers itself with Evenbead's authorization server, then uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Evenbead creates an agent for the connection with the level you chose: every write follows your approval rules, the kill switch in Settings stops it, and the audit log records each action under its own name with the model "Claude". Access tokens last at most an hour and only work at https://api.evenbead.com/mcp. See Connect other AI apps for the protocol details.
Claude Code
Claude Code can use the same sign-in: claude mcp add --transport http evenbead https://api.evenbead.com/mcp, then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Authenticate. It returns to a local address on your computer, which the consent screen shows. An agent's API key in a header also still works (see MCP setup).
