Plans and billing
Every company on Evenbead has a plan (Solo, Business or Advanced; Owned for self-hosting) and a billing state. Reading your own data is never metered, and your own agents over REST or MCP are never counted against a plan.
What an agent can read
curl https://api.evenbead.com/v1/billing -H "Authorization: Bearer $EVENBEAD_KEY"
Any key with the read scope gets the plan, how it is paid (trial, stripe, firm or comp), the status, trial and grace dates, whether the books are read-only, usage this month (Evenbead AI transactions against the quota, bank-feed accounts against the limit), the plan's limits and feature gates, and invoices. MCP tool: get_billing (firms: get_firm_billing). GET /v1/me carries the short form (billing.access, billing.reason) so an agent can plan around it.
Buying, changing or cancelling a plan is done by the company's owner or CPA in the app (Settings, Billing) or with their own session; agents and connected AI apps are refused, and those operations are not MCP tools.
Trials, grace and read-only
- A new company starts a 30-day trial of the Business plan, no card. Choosing a plan during the trial charges nothing until it ends.
- When a trial ends without a plan, or a payment fails, everything keeps working for 7 days.
- After that the books are read-only: every write answers
402 account_read_only. Reading, exporting and dry runs still work, and so does billing. Choosing a plan or paying the invoice restores full access at once.
Limits your agents may meet
| Error | Status | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
account_read_only | 402 | The trial or a payment is past its grace period, or the plan was cancelled. Read and export only. |
plan_feature | 403 | A feature above the plan (for example classes on Solo). details.needs names the plan. Existing data stays readable. |
quota_exceeded | 402 | Evenbead's own AI (model evenbead/…) used the month's quota and the owner's overage cap. Your own agents are not affected. |
rate_limited | 429 | Requests per minute per key (Solo 60, Business 300, Advanced 1,200). Wait for Retry-After. |
Accounting firms
A firm can pay for its clients at 35% off list on one monthly invoice (GET /v1/firm/billing), or let them pay for themselves; a client the firm refers that pays for itself gets 20% off its first year.
